When you fly, make sure to become a member of the airline’s Frequent Flyer Program. Every mile you travel will be recorded. Once you travel enough miles, you can get upgrades to 1st-class or even free tickets.
Typically it takes 25,000 – 40,000 miles to get a free ticket. This is about 6 or 7 round-trips from San Francisco to New York. It’s about 4 round-trips from San Francisco to Tokyo.
If you just travel for fun, you might be able to get one ticket a year. If you travel for business, you can get much more. Many business people travel 100,000 miles each year! This gives them 4 free tickets!
The secret to getting Frequent Flyer Miles is to only use one airline. That way your miles aren’t spread across many different companies.
You can also get credit cards that give you one mile for every dollar you spend. This is a great way to get miles if you use your credit card a lot.
